Citibank is the banking arm of the financial services giant Citigroup. It has operations in more than 100 countries around the world. More than 50% of its 1,400 offices are in the USA, in cities like Chicago, LA, New York City, San Francisco and Miami. They are an online banking juggernaught.

Citibank offers its clients multiple account options. Registered clients can login and check all manner of banking information. From private bank accounts to business accounts, credit cards, health, savings and mortgages to name a few. There’s so much information that it’s slightly nauseating and overwhelming.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..
There is too much information on this banking site. No sooner have your eyes been bombarded by one commercial than another is popping up in your face. And the links go to loads more pages with so much depth that it’s hard to find your way out of this site. They don’t know how to keep things simple. It’s like a vortex of banking jargon.

Why is it different to other online banks? We graded on originality and innovation..

Citibank clearly missed the axiom of simplicity in innovation. While they certainly have a lot going on with online bank accounts, it’s hardly the type of content that is user friendly. For all their merits, they get a big thumbs down on usable innovation.

While they fare poorly in many sectors, Citibank scores mad props in the accounts department. They have so multiple options in personal accounts, business accounts, corporations & government, institutional investors and much more for their clients.

For a bank this size we were somewhat stunned that more emphasis wasn’t placed on social networking. But Citibank has made a token offer to its clients by posting a Twitter icon on its homepage.

A big disappointment in this area too. By the time you have navigated to your specific region it’s like you’re out in the wilderness again. They have to simplify this process by being far more branch specific right off the bat.
