Bank of Internet is an FDIC insured and publicly traded (NASDAQ:BOFI) company. BofI private bank provides clients with both traditional banking and loan services – all done over the Internet. There are no branch network costs entailed.

Traditional Banking & Loan Services

Bank of Internet provides quick-access to automated payments for scheduled bills like mortgage and car payments as well as single bill payments.  Personal online banking includes checking, savings and CDs. There are also home loans and apartment loans. Their offerings are limited however and that’s a real problem.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

There is a simple design template which looks far too basic for something as serious as investments, banking and financing. Clients can move between personal banking, home loans and apartment loans. There is a one-dimensional focus on checking rates on their home page. We prefer a more robust and explanatory platform.

Why is it different to other online banks? We graded on originality and innovation..
Internet banking in itself is nothing new. So we put BofI to the test and they offer very little in terms of innovation. In fact they’re pretty run-of-the-mill and score poorly in this category.

As can be expected from an online bank without any physical branches – offerings are limited. Clients can open personal banking accounts in checking, savings and CDs or opt for home loans or apartment loans.

Their help and support has an FAQ page which is not very comprehensive. Type in your query and hope for a result. There are e-mail addresses and forms to complete, but we found no live online support. There are contact numbers for other issues like stolen cards and automated banking however.

It’s all online so there are no branches – good or bad – you decide. But we like to know that there is somewhere we can go if our online bank accounts necessitate this.
