What range of mortgages is available on this site? Are there fixed rate, adjustable, FHAs, home equity or refinance options? We found out..

Yahoo Rocks

Yahoo! Real Estate allows users to access tools like Rent vs. Own, Amortization calculators, Find Home Values, Find Child Care, or Compare Salaries, among others. We fail to see what all of the latter have to do with real estate or mortgage banks, so we have scored them accordingly.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

Simply awful. We have never seen such a mockery of refinancing, mortgage options and the like. The site looks like a standard, cheap template with pastel shades of green, sky blue and red links. There is some useful information on online mortgage rates, but it’s not personalized. More effort must be made for them to be taken seriously.

How easy is it to use the mortgage calculator? How quickly can I find out the borrowing rates by entering my details, amount and zip code? Is information for borrowers easy to find? We graded..

We were looking for actual online calculators but instead what we found were links and more links. Eventually we located their Top 5 Most Popular Calculators under their Finance and Mortgage section. These tools really do a great job.

How detailed are the mortgage descriptions? Is the information on mortgages easy to follow or written in complex jargon? Are the various mortgage options easy to compare and are breakdowns provided? We graded on content..

There are guides and in-depth analyses to the various types of mortgages available. However they are provided in such a manner that they are uninviting. The content is substantial but the presentation does not allow for easy comparisons and breakdowns of relevant data.

Why is it different to other online banks? We graded on originality and innovation..

There are various useful how-to guides included in the Yahoo! Real Estate site, but overall there is very little that demonstrates a significant level of innovation being employed here. It is a poor showing by Yahoo!

How interactive is this site? Is there a Facebook Group? Twitter? RSS feeds? Linked In? Forum? We found out..

Quite surprisingly, there was nothing explicit in the way of social options from Yahoo!

Can you contact the site with queries? This grades the email support, live chat and telephone contacts available to users..

After a minute or two searching for Contact Us or Help sections, we gave up. The point is not only whether these are available or not, but whether customers can quickly and easily find them, and access them.
