SunTrust offers fixed online mortgage rates products, adjustable rate products, jumbo products, mortgages for special needs, FHA/VA products and payment options. This is effectively their buffet of mortgage offerings. We are impressed.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

The site initially appears well designed and offers mediocre navigation to multiple categories and pages. The graphics and signature SunTrust color-scheme mesh well together. However, there is simply too much going on. There are too many links, the text size is too small and the pages look cluttered.

How easy is it to use the mortgage calculator? How quickly can I find out the borrowing rates by entering my details, amount and zip code? Is information for borrowers easy to find? We graded..

We shopped around this site and couldn’t locate mortgage calculators. While it may well exist, we are not prepared to waste valuable time searching for what should be blatantly obvious.

How detailed are the mortgage descriptions? Is the information on mortgages easy to follow or written in complex jargon? Are the various mortgage options easy to compare and are breakdowns provided? We graded on content..

The content is somewhat overwhelming. We were hoping to find simple and concise information, but alas, to no avail. The information provided includes all the jargon that we were hoping to avoid reading. This is unacceptable, once again.

Why is it different to other online banks? We graded on originality and innovation..

SunTrust Mortgage is a frontrunner in the industry. They provide rate watchers, rate calculations and all manner of online applications. But so do many other financial institutions. There is very little setting them apart from the other big boys of the industry.

We feel that the presentation of their support page is very poor. They can match other big mortgage companies and make a real effort. SunTrust Mortgage offers email, telephone/fax and online form support.

SunTrust employees are permitted access to customers’ information. They do maintain strict internal policies against unauthorized disclosure or use of client information by employees. Site security is pretty tight too with high-level encryption technology.
